Register for a Mock Residency Interview

Preparing for residency is one of the most important milestones in a medical student’s journey. Our mock residency interview program offers students the opportunity to practice, receive personalized feedback, and refine their interview skills with alumni working in their specialty of interest.

Program Overview

In partnership with PCOM Residency Planning Services, the PCOM Office of Institutional Advancement is pleased to offer M4 students the opportunity to conduct virtual mock residency interviews with alumni in various specialties. These 30-45 minute interviews will consist of 20-30 minutes of questions followed by 10-15 minutes of feedback from the alumni interviewer. Interviews take place each fall.

Frequently Asked Questions

I contacted my interviewer via their preferred contact method, but have not heard back. What should I do?

If you have not yet heard back from your interviewer within 2-3 days, send them a reminder using their preferred contact method. Our office often finds that alumni will read the message but need that reminder to respond! If you still don’t hear anything, try using their alternate contact information to call and leave a message, or email them to say you reached out via their preferred contact method and would like to schedule a time for their interview.

My interviewer can only schedule a time on the weekend, and I'm busy on the weekends. Can I get a new interviewer?

We cannot assign new interviewers due to scheduling challenges. Because our alumni are taking time from their busy careers and personal lives to volunteer with this program, students are expected to be as flexible as possible when scheduling the mock interview. This might mean you need to conduct your interview on a weekend or weekday morning/evening.

Should I share my personal statement with my interviewer?

If your interviewer asks for your personal statement and you are comfortable sharing it, you are permitted to do so, however, it is not required. Interviewers have been instructed not to ask for your grades, board scores, or transcripts, as this violates FERPA. Interviewers have been instructed to conduct the mock interview under the assumption that you meet the criteria to be invited for a residency interview in your specialty.

I no longer want to participate in the Mock Residency Interview Program. What should I do?

If you no longer wish to participate, please email your alumni interviewer to let them know. Please also email alumni@pcom.edu so we can pair your interviewer with a student on our wait list.
